The conceptualization of Immersion stemmed from Lee's keen observation that smartphone applications, despite their best intentions, often contradict the very goal of focused work. This intuitive visual cue, featuring simulated sand gradually filling a circular display, allows users to grasp the passage of time without the precise, often anxiety-inducing, numeric countdowns.
